This painting explores the meeting of human presence, memory, and place through a fragmented, geometric portrait of a woman. She occupies the centre of the composition, yet the world around her seems to exist simultaneously as reality, memory, and imagination.
The woman’s flowing patterned hair and dress become part of the surrounding landscape. Behind her, architectural forms suggest a historic city, while the mountains, trees, animals, figures, and outdoor café introduce a more intimate and almost dreamlike environment. These elements appear less as literal objects and more as fragments of remembered places and experiences.
The contrasting patterns—dots, waves, checks, stripes, and geometric forms—create a strong visual rhythm. They represent the layers of impressions that accumulate in memory. The repeated motifs also connect the figure to her surroundings, suggesting that people carry fragments of places and experiences within them.
The simplified faces and angular figures deliberately avoid realism. Instead, I use shape, pattern, and colour to communicate mood and movement. The central figure becomes both an individual and a symbolic presence—someone pausing within a world filled with stories, journeys, encounters, and memories.
The painting ultimately reflects on the space between where we are and where our memories take us—a place where architecture, nature, people, and imagination merge into one visual experience.
