“Fragments of Memory”
Painting # SM-047

This painting explores the relationship between people, places, and the fragments of everyday life that remain in memory. Two central figures appear almost like reflections of one another, their faces simplified into geometric planes while their surroundings dissolve into patterns, silhouettes, architecture, animals, and fragments of distant places.

The contrasting patterns—circles, waves, triangles, dots, and grids—represent the many layers through which memories are experienced. They are not always clear or complete; instead, they overlap, repeat, and transform over time. The architectural forms and small human figures suggest different cities, encounters, and moments that become part of a personal visual landscape.

The elongated figures and bold geometric shapes create a sense of movement and tension, while the muted earth tones are interrupted by flashes of gold, purple, red, and blue. The painting therefore becomes less a literal scene and more a collage of remembered experiences.

At its heart, the work is about how we carry places and people within us—how fragments of the past continue to shape the way we see the present. Memory becomes a landscape, reconstructed through colour, form, pattern, and emotion.
